Think about marketing as storytelling
Our customers have a problem: they are overwhelmed, curious or just looking for something better. The product or service we have is the turning point, the plot twist. The very thing that gets them from where they are now to where they want to be!
However the challenge that we must overcome is….
We only have a few seconds to grab their attention.
What we need is that first line of a book, our hook
“We all died yesterday but now the real problem has come for us.”
If you read this line in a book curiosity takes over. How are they narrating if they are dead? You don’t get a full monologue explaining what happened, where they were, or what they were doing. The story moves fast—or you lose the reader.
Marketing should feel the same: clear, concise, and direct
Instead of saying: “We offer all-inclusive vacation planning services tailored to your preferences…
Say: “Overwhelmed with vacation planning? We design your trip, so you don’t have to.”
That is your hook, it's helpful and tells a story in a single breath.
Next time you write a post or a pitch ask yourself does this capture my attention and lead to action? No? Then try trimming it down.
We will dive deeper into storytelling soon. For now, remember marketing isn't about telling your customer everything all at once, but about saying the right thing fast.
